It all started when…
Kaz Foncette, founder of Wigs for Heroes, was diagnosed with a Stage 2 Grade 3, HER2 positive Breast Cancer on 2nd May 2017 at the age of 31.
The devastating news was given to Kaz one day after celebrating her 6th year wedding anniversary with husband Matthew; the anniversary gift they neither wanted nor expected.
Shortly after her diagnosis, Kaz was informed by her doctors that she would need to undergo various treatments, including 6 cycles of chemotherapy to eradicate the cancer.
The first question that Kaz asked her doctors was ‘Am I going to lose my hair?’ The same burning question that many women across the world are still faced with everyday.
After researching online and looking at a range of wigs, she was surprised at how expensive they were and after speaking to various women it became apparent that for some women, well fitted and attractive wigs were considered a luxury item rather then a right.
Thinking about the other people at the North Middlesex Hospital, Kaz was determined to help. Determined to raise their confidence during a vulnerable time and help lift the burden financially for others. And so Wigs for Heroes was born and the fundraising began.
